Food Assistance

Tailoring our support to family size, Lake Christian Ministries ensures that each family member receives enough monthly food supplies for 10 nutritious meals. Our comprehensive food-assistance program includes essential items such as meat, butter, eggs, bread, vegetables, cereal, and fresh produce.

MAIN LOCATION: Monday, Wednesday & Friday: 9 am-noon and the last Tuesday of each month: 5-6:30 pm.

MOBILE PANTRY: Second Thursday of each month at Christ Community Church in Penhook: 8:30-10:30 am.

As a dedicated Feeding Southwest Virginia Partner Agency, Lake Christian Ministries obtains food from a variety of sources, including the USDA program, with an emphasis on providing quality and nutritious food.

Our collaborative efforts extend further as individual households, local churches, businesses, and civic organizations actively contribute to LCM's A Simple Gesture program once per quarter. This initiative gathers “wish list” items that include food, cleaning supplies, and toiletries. We also work closely with local grocery stores. Each day, LCM’s volunteer drivers travel to grocery partners to pick up surplus food supplies, minimizing waste and maximizing resources.

Each year, 8,000-10,000 pounds of fresh produce is donated to LCM’s food pantry from the SML Giving Garden, the local chapter of the Gleaners, local farmers and produce markets. These donations enable LCM to offer fresh, seasonal produce to improve the nutritional value of the food offerings.

To address growing needs, approximately 70 percent of the food required for LCM’s food-assistance program is locally purchased through cash donations to LCM, ensuring a well-rounded and sustained approach to supporting our community.

Lake Christian Ministries’ food pantry is located in Building 1 of our campus. LCM extends its reach with a mobile food pantry, made possible with a transport truck that was donated by a generous business partner. Stationed at Christ Community Church in Penhook every second Thursday, this specially equipped truck ensures access to essential resources in remote areas of our service region.

Holiday Food Baskets

Lake Christian Ministries extends its support to client families during the holidays by distributing Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas meal supplies on the Saturday before each of these holidays, spreading the spirit of joy and togetherness.

Donations of Food Items

Non-perishable food (within the serve-by date) may also be donated to support our food-assistance program. These items may be dropped off at our food warehouse located in Building 1 of the LCM campus: 13157 South Old Moneta Road, Moneta VA 24121.

Donation drop-off hours are: 9 a.m. to noon on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays; and from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on the last Tuesday of each month.
